Four More Iowa PPFA Clinics About to CloseBy Dave Andrusko
NRL News Today - May 19, 2017
Last week pro-life Iowa Gov. Terry Branstad signed a $7.2 billion budget bill that included defunding abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood. The state is forgoing $3 million in federal funding and using it own money “to recreate its own family planning network so that it can prohibit the funding of clinics that provide abortions,” reported William Petroski of the Des Moines Register.
“The current system that used federal Medicaid money will expire June 30, according to the Iowa Department of Human Services,” the Associated Press’s Barbara Rodriguez and Linley Sanders reported. “Participants will automatically be transferred to the new state-run program, which covers the same services as long as they are not sought at a clinic offering abortions. Department spokeswoman Amy McCoy said participants will need to bring proof of coverage to receive those services.”
According to Rodriguez and Sanders, Planned Parenthood of the Heartland has 12 clinics prior to the upcoming four closures.
